Hosting guides and answers

What we have learned running servers, explained for people who would rather get on with their business.

What you will find here

We write about the things people actually ask us: how to choose a hosting plan, what a shared license is and why it costs so much less than buying direct, how to move a site without downtime, which control panel suits which server, and what the .ke domain rules mean in practice.

Everything here is written by the people who run the servers, so it tells you what we would tell a customer on a support ticket — including when the cheaper option is the right one.

Where to start

If you are putting a first website online, start with the hosting guides: what a plan actually includes, how shared hosting differs from a VPS, and what decides whether a page feels quick. If you already run a server, the license articles are the ones worth your time — control-panel licensing is the cost most people discover after they have bought the machine, and it is usually the larger of the two.

The domain articles cover the part that is genuinely yours: choosing a name, picking the right extension, moving one between registrars without the site going down. The server articles pick up where shared hosting stops — sizing a VPS, choosing a panel, and deciding whether you want to administer it yourself or have us do it.

What we will not write

No listicles padded to rank, no benchmark we did not run, and no uptime figure we cannot stand behind. Where an answer depends on your setup we say so, rather than giving one that is only true in a single case. Where the honest answer is that you do not need to buy anything, that is the answer in the article.

If something you need is not here, ask. Tickets and live chat are answered around the clock, and the questions that come up often enough end up as the next article.
